A connected mailbox comes into Messages. B03M only reads: it marks nothing as read and moves nothing, except a message you pull out of spam yourself with Not spam. Your answers go through your own mail server, from your address.
How to connect it
- Go to Settings → W0RK → Connections and pick Email (IMAP).
- Pick Gmail, iCloud or another server. For Gmail and iCloud, the server, the port and the encryption are set right away.
- Fill in your username, and an app password. Not your normal password: Gmail and iCloud let you create a separate password for this, and that needs two step verification switched on.
- For your own server you also fill in the details for sending (SMTP), and the name the recipient sees.
- Save. B03M tries it right away. If it fails, nothing gets saved, and it says in plain words what's wrong.
After that
- You never see your password again, only the last four characters. Lost it? Fill in a new one.
- B03M fetches every fifteen minutes. First the last month, newest first, then the rest.
- You can connect several mailboxes side by side. An answer always goes out from the mailbox the question came into, and the same mail in two mailboxes shows up once.
- What you send gets a copy in your own Sent folder.
💡
Tip. If your site uses an address of its own to send mail (a confirmation, a form), put it under your own senders. Then it won't be in Messages, but B03M does read it for your tone. More about your voice.
What it doesn't do (yet)
- Signing in with "Sign in with Google" (OAuth); it works with an app password.
- Exchange without IMAP.
